A Basic Review of the Apexi World Sport 2 exhaust system and a lesson to all about doing a car project the right way!
My Car: 94 JDM Accord running a JDM H22A engine
Mistake 1: In the entire life of my project car the only mistake I made was no buy a proper exhasut system. Due to supplier issues and wait months for a system I decided to take some (very bad) advice an get alocal muffler shop to do a custom exhasut for my car.
Mistake 1 Results: My car was so loud It was like working at the airport on the runways. It was ridiculous... I was setting off alarms on the outside and killing my eardrums and brain cells on the inside. Oh... and if it could not get any worse... I had lost a ton of low end torque, obviously due to a loss of substantial compression in the exhaust system.
Mistake 2: I did a bit of research on exhaust systems and spoke to a few people. I was then convinced by a local muffler maker that he could solve my problem by custom making a resonator for me. I was desperate and partially deaf so I said "ok".
Mistake 2 Results: To be fair, I did cut the noise level by about 50%... but truly that was not close to reasonable.
The Real Solution: I turned back to my favourite source of great info and solutions... AccordRacing.com. This forum is responsible for all the great upgrades to my ride so far. So I knew that I'd find the solution here. I found an exhaust that spoke of the Apexi WS2 system... I went to Apexi's website and read more... it too good to be true... "A low decibel, High Output exhaust"
The Real Solution's Results: I'll be honest I would never have believed that it was possible that the Apexi WS2 would have been able to do waht it did without hearing it with my own ear. Not only did I get a quiet ride... I got back all of my lost compression and low end torque
PROS: You get a quiet ride, unless you are flat out. You get to keep all of you low end torque. If you upgrading from a stock exhaust, then expect to feel an increas in Horse Power also, expecially if you have bolt-ons in the Intake and Headers department.
CONS:
With my H22A I get a mettalic humm kinda rattling sound at low speed, especially when starting off... this is the sound not the exhaust rattling... sound like a big exhaust on a small motor kind sound... this is dus most likely to the large muffler trumpeting the small amount of exhaust gasses through the system.
FINAL VERDICT: It is a perfect Low Decibel, High Output Exhaust.I highly recommend it to those of us who want performance in the form of a sleeper package instead of just setting off car alarms everywhere we go!
