    Default Instrument Cluster Compatibility

I was just wondering if anyone could confirm, or not, some information I was given regarding a particular cluster. This is the thing: I have an H22 in my 90' Accord, best upgrade ever, and I came across an instrument cluster from a 2000 Prelude. Now, f22 engines redlined at 6500 or so, h22's at 7300 or 7500rpms. So, with the h22 under the hood I would like to have a tach to show the redline at 7500. To do that, I wanted to replace the 90 accord cluster w/ the Prelude cluster. I was told it wouldn't work. Reason: the 2000 prelude is OBD2 and the accord was "originally" OBD nothing. Can anyone confirm this?

hmmm...u don't necessarily HAVE to have the 2000 preludes gauge cluster do u? U could always just get a tachometer and follow that. It'll be alot simpler than getting the entire dash re-configured ya know?

You're right. It would be the easier way to go. But I just wanted to break out of the cookie mold and do something original & different. I think I'll end up getting
an aftermarket tach though. What would you suggest? Oh, and the dash would neccesarily need to be reconfigured. I took out the Accord cluster and the Prelude fit fine, although not perfect but enough to where it looks like it came like that.

Thats cool that it fit but unless someone with an accord saw ur dash nobody would know what came with it anyways, i haven't had any aftermarket tachs yet cause i have no use for it...my car comes with a tach. I'd say just don't cheap out and to diffently get something that u'll be able to see at nite, as long as it has a light in it every thing should be fine...but try not to get the oversized 5 inch tach

The OBD differences are not the issue. OBD has more to do with motor monitoring than anything interior wise. The plugs and pins within each plug would be my concern. I haven't compared the plugs on the 00 Lude cluster...so you should know....do the plugs match up? It may be worth using the Lude cluster if you really like it. Even if the plugs are different, as long as the pin voltages are the same for both clusters then it can be wired up to work. Wish I had the 00 lude wiring diagrams infront of me...damn it.

First of all, thanks for the reply. The plugs do not match up. The whole wiring thing is different. The Accord uses an actual circuit board. As where the Prelude cluster uses some sort of plastic w/ integrated wire for the current to run through. The lude cluster weighs alot less because of that. I'm going to get the wiring diagram for the Prelude cluster to see if it's possible. I think it's possible. Time consuming........but possible. We'll see what happens. Thanks again.

hey man if you want to be different and steathy and worse comes to worse i beleive that auto meter does make just a shiftlight with a shift point setting on the back of it, i had a 5 inch tach with the shift light and it was one of the best investments i have made, but i deffenatly respect your idea with about the lude cluster. (because we all know its not good to look down at the dash when your hitting 7 grand going down the road.)
