As far as engine part painting goes... what brand(s) are the best, and what is the best process for painting something? Somethingl ike this?
1) Take it out of the car
2) sand/wirebrush it down to bare, shiny metal
3) apply (how many) coats of paint
4) re-install on/in the engine
Also, what all have people had success painting?
I would LIKE to paint just about everything under the hood if at all possible... maybe even the underside of the hood too. Is there anything that you really CANNOT paint... any advice would be helpful.

hummmm well just about anything an everything is paintable bro...
im going to be painting my intake here soon an maybe even my valve cover... im matching them to my rims...
for the plastic stuff, like the fuse box an all that crap i would say use bumper paint/primer an clear coats... that way if they do flex at all it shouldnt crack...
for those things you would have to wet sand it down so that it has a nice good surface to grab to when painted on...
for metal/aluminum stuff, such as strut tower bars an such same thing as above sand down make sure there is no greas or oils on anything, an have at it.. you could use any kind of automotive paint for this, but i would recamend using paints that have a high temprature coverage area... since it is most likly stuff on or around the engine....
an as for th underside of the hood... yes it is possible to do this, you might find it alot easyer to take the hood off of the car to do it though... you can either strip the paint off of the hood completly (using aircraft) ask patric about this one, i directed him to this product an it cut his work time in half with the sanding an such on his project... or you could just wet sand the hell out of it an lay some primer down an paint it that way..
but in answer to your question though, yes anything an everything is just about paintable even the heat sheilding over the headers...

i got your back bro....my engin bay is all prettied up... i just cleaned the parts and used testors paint... it kinda looks like a deep gel coat...no probs with any peeling. it all looks great. i used some blue wire loom over my wires, and used blue phenix gold wire for my ground kit so everything matches. i get lots of compliments on it.. do a good job and do it right and be proud of your pretty little girly engine bay.

i diddnt use it on anything touching tje engen. just on all the little brackets( radiater, wire, fluid resivour, pump, brackets/ atatchments) surounding the engine. probly wouldnt hold up on anything getting too hot... better get some engine paint for that. good luck pics, pics, pics!!!

white rims, on white cars.. ya it could look good if they are the right rims.. im thinking about getting the euro accord rims, the white ones with the red H in the cener.. i can get a set plus the spare for $500.oo right now.. my cars white for now.. but i think it would look good.. but like i said, it all depends omn the rim...

If this pic works, then you'll see my 91SE with the painted valve covers and exhaust manifold. Painted it all with high heat spray paint from the local Auto Zone.

damn damn damn... yesterday i took off my header cover and painted it a buitiful blue w/ some engine paint , put it back on this morning and went for a drive, smelt burnt paint so i popped the hood and the paint had gone all wrinkly on me.... guess i shoulda let it dry longer... live and learn....... now i get to strip it and start over.

hum well the header cover i think gets alot hotter then the valve cover itself, so i dont know if that engine paint would work good on there anyways... but its all aobut trial an era right.. also i would recamend waiting about three days depending on the weather before putting them back on again, an dont paint the underside of the sheild, just the side that is visable....

Dupli color makes a paint called metalcast that is specialized for painting engine parts and can withstand heat. www.duplicolor.com is where u can check it out. it makes stuff look like its anodized. pretty phat paint actually.

dont paint your header cover unless u get some really high heat paint becuase it gets really hot anything under about 1000 degrees dont bother my friend did it with 500 and it is all crappy now
