I've always liked the idea of getting my VIN# acid sketched into my rear windshield and possibly maybe the back side windows....for theft purposes...

if you look in your engine bay, like behind the intake manifold, you vin is carved out in the frame

i think it's illegal to have anything etched into your windows, i've always wondered why police statios encourage people to do this.

my vin, along with a tracking # is etched into all of my glass. they did it at the honda dealer when i bought my car... along weith some little stickers. it was like 200.00 dollars, but it came with a 5000.00 garuntee my car would not be stollen(even if i do get it back), cuz no real car thief would steal somthing that easily traced....so if it does get stollen, my insurance will pay out, along with another 5 geez from them..so, my car is worth more stollen... :D

ya i dont know why they tell you somehting is illegal an then they tell you to do it.. oh wait what am i saying.. i know why this is.. its so that when you do do it it gives them something more to make money off of when they right you a big ass fine for doing what they told you to do in the first place....heheheh

I've never heard of this being illegal at all. My dad used to have a really old pick-up truck that had actual pictures acid etched into the glass on like the rear window, and both side windows and not once was hassled by a cop for it. I think having the VIN# is definitely encouraged being that it helps reduce auto theft....

One question: for the 8th digit
VEHICLE GRADE (SERIES).. digit 8
2: dx
3: lx
4: lx with abs
5: ex
I have an Accord with this number is "3" but the model on the back of my car is "EX", wondering which is correct? On my owner's card from government it says model "ULE". Then my car is LX or EX? Thanks. (btw, the year is 1996)
