Synthetic vs. regular Motor oil?
Is Synthetic engine oil really that much better than regular motor oil? Will you see big improvement of power? Right now I am using Castrol GTX 5w-30 motor oil. And I was looking to switch to Castrol Syntec 5w-30 motor oil.

hell yea.. Synthetic is better.. i am running in my 94 accord... moble 1 synthetic.. car runs smoother... also it only cost at costco $24.99 i tink for a 6pk usally $5.00 a quart. u only use like 4 quarts anyways.. and a filter is like $5.00.. cost u under $25 a change for everything if u do it urself.. thats how much it is at other place but thye dont use synthetic..

Yes. Switch to synthetic, and never look back!
Actually, if you want some badass protection, add Lucas Oil Stabilizer to it. That shit bonds with the parts so well, I mean it's like molasses.. It just stays on the parts all the time, and especially when it's not running.
You will notice a difference with that stuff too. Just check out the Lucas display with the four gears in your local autoparts store and see what it does. :)

I heard that synthetic oil isn't really good if you have high miles on your car. I have 170,000 miles. Do you really think I should switch? But I do run my car engine pretty hard.

I have a slow leak in my engine. I heard using Synthetic oil it will leak away faster. So I might just go with 50% Synthetic oil? I tried putting stuff in my engine so it would stop the leak; but I guess it isn't enought to hold it. I have a leak coming out of the crank shaft. I know I have to pull the motor out to change it. So I said I can deal with the leak and just put oil in. It is much cheaper than pulling the whole motor. The motor is in good shape. I am not burning oil or loosing any power. I think I am going to drive a few more thousand miles on it then just rebuild the engine or do an engine swap with a H22 from a 92-97 Prelude.

just get a heavier weight oil it will slow the leak and try some of the sealants that they have pepboys and what not

Thank you for all your help. I tried using heavier weight oil, but it makes my engine slugish. So I think I am going to go with 50% synthetic Castrol 5w-30 and I am going to add Lucas Oil Stabilizer. I hope I will see some improvements.

dont mix oils.. if u are gonna go with synthetic use only synthetic.. if u use regular.. use only regular.. i dunno.. i might be wrong but i dont tink its good to mix.. also i have a small leak around the same spot that u have..
i just had some1 take a quick look when i had a new clutch put in and he told meeh it is the seals in the timing belt... i put synthetic and i tink it is leaking less well for a while but i still see that it leaks just a little less so.. i just stuck with all synthetic NO MIX i could be wrong...
but the seals on the accords have problem with leakin oil cuz i noe one of them the one on the cams i tink doesnt have anything holding it in.. if u go the honda deal.. well my guy explain it too meeh and i just got the seals and he gave meeh this metal peice that i should install over the cam seal and it will help.. but i have to get a timing belt change anyways .. so i am gonna have some1 change my timing belt.. since he is in there.. i am gonna get new water pump, 4 seals on F22B1, two belts, and put the metal peice i got to hold one of the seals in.. hope this helps..
i looked under the car be4.. it is kinda hard to trace where it is coming but i real tink it is the timing belt seals.. is it a large leak cuz if it is the i noe for sure it is the seals.. u dont need to take motor out to do a timing job... if they noe what they are doing.. i wrote too much already but i hope this helps.. good luck.. oh yea i drove for like 10000 miles with leak and now i am gonna get it fixed soon. shiz i hate oil leaks.. my Moble 1 Synthetic is not cheap.. but i will never go back.. i also pump chevron and gasss is going up to like $200. FAK ME good luck again if u need anymore help i check this all the time...

I have a F22A4 Engine. I use Chevron gas 91 octane and it is costing me $2.35. So I guess your lucky if you are paying only $2. I am using Castrol GTX 5w-30 Motor oil right now. And I am thinking about switching to Castrol Syntec Blend which is already pre-mix 50% synthetic. So no I am not going to mix the oil myself it comes that way already. But thanks for the tip I will see if I can try to stop the motor leak.

oh lol.. my gas is the same price then.. i live a CA.. its 2.09 now i tink for just 87 octane.. lol so i guess 2.35 for 91 is bout rite.. i guess u live in CA too.. i am buying all the parts to do the timing belt and all the stuff in that area.. so far i tink parts are gonna cost around $120... for honda seals but water pump and belts are gonna be from an auto store.. and installing them will cost around $100 or more.. but i hate this oil leak and i am now gonna do something bout it lol been almost a year... well good luck with the oil leak..

oh yea this might help you with where the oil might be leaking from also it shows the metal retainer u need for the cam oil seal.. it already has two bolts there like there is suppose to be a retainer u can get from honda... also the oil pump seal might be leaking oil so.. just take a look here

Thanks for your help. Do you know anything about Auto trannys? I have a tranny problem. My tranny is slipping in Over drive and in low range it shift really hard all the time. Do you know if you can get the tranny adjusted? or tighten the Auto bands inside?

Well scratch the last statement I said. I found out that Auto Accords Tranny can't not be adjusted. I guess I am going to run my tranny until it dies and just get another one. I might just go back with Honda's ATF oil. Right now I am runny Napa Auto parts ATF.

yea i dunno wats up with the auto tranny being so jerky when shifting.. cuz i my cuz car is like too.. i tink cuz he did to many {N}eutral drops.. not good for autos..
Asiandude03
03-01-2004, 10:46 AM
Nah! I don't do {N}eutral drops.. I know that isn't good for the tranny. But I do run the hell out of my engine and my Tranny. I am always taking my car past 120 mph on the freeway. I travel a lot up to Sacramento from where I live. But when I drive up to Sacramento I get this stupid racers that want to race me. So I give them a run for there money. Its hella fun. But now I realized that my car is starting to run like shit. So I am not doing that any more. But now I am left with this stupid tranny problem I caused.

I think I am going to just wait until my tranny dies. and just replace it with a rebuild or try the manual tranny swap. not too sure yet. Also I thinking about Switching to Castrol High Mileage oil because my car has hella miles on it. But not too sure what will protect my engine better.

That is hella expensive oil! I change my oil too often to buy that. I change my oil like every month. because I put on like 3,000 miles a month.
