Whats everyone got for a suspension set-up? Also post if you like or dislike your ride quality/performance and why..
- Tokico Illumina shocks
- Eibach Sportline springs
- Energy Suspension bushing kit
- 16" ROTA Slipstreams
- Falken Tires
- Sustech sway bars
- Neuspeed front upper strut bar
I love the ride quality, height, everything! Rides better than stock and makes a huge increase in cornering abilities.

tokikos blues
H&R sport line 2.25" drop
EBC slotted aan cross drilled rotors
stock calipers
raybestos ceramic brake pads
stock bushings -soon will be changed out when i get hte money.
an no sway bars yet..
i like the ride other than the fact that im sitting like 3-4" off the ground... it rides surprisingly smooth, an it only realy makes noises when it is cold as beans outside...

When I had my cord..
Tein SS full coil overs
Falken Azenis tires
Strut tower bar
Polyurethane end links cause the old ones were busted
stock breaks and pads
Bought a full bushing kit but never got to install it. I have it for sale if anyone is intrested. see the classifieds under my post.
dampening setting set full force on the teins (yet I didnt think it was stiff enough, though all my friends thought it was the best they have ever ridden in or driven)
I had it dropped, shit, all I remember was that it was .75" from the lowest setting.
The teins gave me literally no body roll, even taking highway turns over 100(when no one was around of course)
You could sit in the car and shake it back and forth, and the amount of flex and roll you saw was dissapated in about 2 seconds. I know I got more than what I paid for..
the tires. I loved them. They are some of the gripiest mo fos Ive ever ridden on. I convinced my friend to get them for his supra and he loved them. He was running low 12s with the supra and had plenty of traction problems.. the tires helped him some.. didnt solve everything.
Dont know if my strut tower bar did anything.. at least that I could feel. I know it helped reduce chasis flex up front, especially with the stiffer force of the springs.

what springs do you have that dropped it so much?

That dosnt do much justice. You can sort of see the stock lip busted off alittle bit. And the scar on the left where the new head light is was a drifting accident. That was when I had my rally suspension on the car (aka stock ride height)

ya takezo what the hell do you scrape on at 1.75 inches ?? oh wait i know why you scrape, cause you got the tokiko blues on there as well that pulled you down another inch right there at least... so then you are sitting more like 2.75" in the front instead of 1.75"... thats the only reason why you should be hitting with such a minimal drop, because of those tokikos..

Yeah the tokicos will lower some more too. Dont go back to stock shocks though. Lowering springs and stock shocks shouldnt mix. I mean they can, but youll blow them out easily and the ride will be really fricken bouncy. I had TEIN S techs and stock shocks on my car for alittle while. They sucked. I dont recamend the S Techs. I got them cause Icouldnt afford normal teins, untill my friend deceided to try and drift his stupid transam and crashed it into a light pole. I got 9 stiches to the face, broken nose, some black eyes, and more fun stuff to go along with the party. I also got to cuss out a priest cause he thought he was a fricken docter... my head was bleeding all over.. I was tryin to write my name in the street with drippin blood(make the best out of the situation), then some priest comes out and tells me that Im not bleeding anymore and that I dont need to apply pressure to my forehead anymore with the , youll love this, you know those paper auto service floor mats, yeah I was using one of those... yeah anyhow, priesty didnt think was bleeding so I told him how I was really feeling.
peace. Keep the suspension setups comin!

yeah i got suspension tech springs but i think they are 2in drop, or does the shocks have to do with how far its dropped
jdmaccordbo!916
12-11-2003, 01:08 AM
the drop hight on the spring is what ever it says.. then if you got the short shocks..(you know the ones for lowered cars) that will normaly lowere you almost another inch or so... well at least it is that way with the tokikos.. the cradel sites alot lower than the stock one would...

hey yall i havent even started on my suspension. all i want is a level look to the suspension. cuz the rear looks higher thank the front. i only want to go low enough to make some 18's look crammed in. how low do yall suggest i go. i was thinking maybe 1-1.5 inches. to make it look level would i have like 1" in the front and 1.5" in the rear or the same all around? ive been looking into ground control springs and havent really decided with the shocks especially reading that some shocks make you an inch lower. can anyone help me out....this is an area i have no experience in other than replacing stock stuff.......never lowered anything........ever.........HELP!!!!!
matts
12-14-2003, 01:14 PM
i would really suggest deciding on the wheels first. the width of the wheel, or more importantly the tire will dictate how low you can go because of the control arm clearance. if you want more drop in the rear you might need to go with coilovers. unlike springs they allow you to adjust the ride height, but many people prefer the ride quality with springs.

get it straight. you drive your car for a quality ride, not for ride quality.
for the normal people who dont think as far fectched as i do
mont of us drive because of the speed and turns, and we would suffer comfort for performance :D

yo- come up to the north east. (i know PA isn't north, but its farther north than VA) the roads suck so hard. you'd get a concussion if you tried to go with super stiff suspension.

stock wheel/tire diameter - 195/60/15 = 24.21 total outside diameter
215/35/18 = 23.92
215/40/18 = 24.77
225/35/18 = 24.20
depending on the width of the wheel, any of these would be ok.

hey matts, how bout 18x7 rims
is it ok to use 225/40/R18 ? I want 215 instead of 225 though...
matts
12-15-2003, 08:02 PM
215 width is good for 7" wide wheels
225/40s are 25.08 diameter. i'm not really sure how much this would effect everything, but i would stick to the 215/40. the 215/35's are about the same difference from stock, but the 40's will give you a smoother ride. vasponger might like the 35's though.
vasponger
12-15-2003, 08:39 PM
i want wider, i want 17" and 215's what would my tires and stuff be
matts
12-16-2003, 09:50 AM
the comment above was referring to you liking performance needs over ride quality. the bigger sidewall will give you a better ride, but also give more under weight, resulting in a little more body roll, and such. i think the effects of this are minimal if used as a daily driver.
i'm probably going with 215/40/17 when i get my wheels. that is 23.77" diameter.
215/45/17 would also work. 24.61" diameter.

cool matts thanks for the numbers. btw how do you break down the tire sizes? id like to know if ya not too busy. im a math nerd just wondering what the 215 and 35 stand for.

12-16-2003, 03:10 PM
ok so like a 35 would be a smaller profile tire right?
eyentheterrible
12-16-2003, 06:28 PM
i thought 35 meant it would be a wider tire? but it may affect heigth if put on different rims. i tried to get a lower profile tire for my grand am and it didnt work out. so ive never really under stood how tire sizes work
vasponger
12-16-2003, 07:17 PM
the 215 would be 215mm wide i believe, and 35mm wide tire.

now im really confused.....haha maybe its the ganj
Infini Omega
12-16-2003, 08:17 PM
so slow it would 215 mm width of the tire not the profile and the 35 stands for 35% of that 215mm. very simple man. so if you have a staggered setup you can calculated the tire profile size to match

Ok, I already put my 18s with 225/40/R18 plus the alignment, the ride is smooth and I feel the rims lighter than my 15s (those 15s dunno what kind of made). And the important thing, my car is not really low anymore. No more scratch my under-body... problem solved.
BUT..
I have another problem now... I need camber kits. Those guys from tire shop told me that I gonna screw my tire up fast (around 10-12K miles) if I didn't fix it. So, what your opinion now? They asked 500 for all (front & rear) included labor, and 300 (front only). Damn it....
vasponger
12-17-2003, 03:56 PM
500 for the full F&R camber kit plus installation, that aint bad really, most of the single tire kits ive seen are around 70-100bucs each so figure thats close to 350-400 for a full kit and 100-150bucs for installation. check what kit they are buying though!

ya its easy to do it yourself..all you realy need is a socket a ratchet an a floor jack... it realy is that simple.. as for the rear you dont need to buy a kit for any price.. go to the hardwear store an buy some heavy duty washers.. that is all that the kit consists of anyways.. youll spend like $4.00 at the most for the rear..(all you gotta do is add the washers to the bolts an keep adding washers to the car untile the tire looks lined up straight with the fender wall). but buy a good kit for the front.. the only part your going to not be able to do yourself is the alignment/tow after it is done.. but that is like $60. all around... at least that is what i did.. an its workin just fine for me..

Well first i was going to get Nuespeed Sport springs with Tokico Blues.
Then i thought about it.... I live in the northeast, we have some pretty harsh winters and if my car was dropped 2 inches i would be screwed.
So my new setup is going to be Skunk2 coilovers with either Tokico Illuminas, or maybe Koni Yellows. Probably get an ingalls camber kit too.
After all that is done i want to wrap my ex alloys with a 205/55/15 size tire.
That should give it a pretty low profile and also a nice width for performance.
Actually i changed my mind.
Im going with the Tein Basic set.
Still getting a camber kit.
And i think im staying with 15" maybe 16" rims.
Does anyone know how low these coilovers will drop.
That damn chart on teins site is confusing as hell.
Carreragt2e
01-27-2004, 09:17 PM
you can get freakin low. Tein SS is the same as basic only you can change the dampening force on the SS, so thats what 250 more gets you.
I had mine set .75" from the lowest setting and I shit I dont even remember how much that droped it. I had about an inche of wheel well for 14" steelies. If someone can explain to me how to post pictures on this site I can post the only side shot I had of my last Cord if thats even needed.
O and tein is making and I guess has camber plates for Cords, I think they cost about 300 some for the set. I would suppose you could interchange them with any sort of strut coilover combo. Dont know how theyd handle lowering spring, someone with money should experiment for the greater cause. though if you had money dont know why youd even bother. O currently I think you have to buy the camber plates that are for the Comfort Coil over types, Im fairly sure you can interchange them between differnt stuff, unless theres some magic peice that wont let you. Ive seen s13's with say tein camber plates and JIC suspension or vice versa. BUT see my thread about bad tein news regarding EDFC and tein SS for the future, they are redesigning some things, or you can be like me in the special catagory of things.

my setup:
eibach sportlines
kyb agxs(front-1 rear-2)
ingalls front camber kit
eibach front and rear strut bars
....if anyone wants to know my opinion....if i ever do replace my shocks/struts ill be getting tokico illuminas or koni reds
my setup is damn good for a really good smooth ride....springs are too soft for racing tho...
next on the list is a rear sway bar....and that will wrap it up until something breaks
