View Full Version : Cross-drilled, or not?

I need new rotors and pads. I've heard cross-drilled and slotted sometimes crack or break. Is this the case? T.A.S. has a package of 4 cross-drilled rotors (10") with a set of high-performance pads for $280. I've heard good things about T.A.S., but is this a good deal? Does anyone have this package on their Accord?
Any advice on brands of pads or rotors? I'm on a tight budget because I just took out my rack and pinion last week and that's costing me $500, so I have roughly $200-300 to spend on the whole set up.

Ive heard slotted is better than drilled but drilled and slotted are better than stock. Ive never heard them cracking before cuz the fact that there slotted or drilled is supposed to reduce heat.Ive only heard good things about them; and as for the pads Ive heard really good things about the Green Stuff pads. Hope that helps a little.......

I think I remember Kevin from here saying something about Green Stuff pads should only be used for track running, where as Red Stuff is actually more for on-road use.

Well, I ended up finding 4 cross drilled/slotted Brembo rotors on ebay!!
They still have some of these in stock from 88 rotors in CA.... $170 for 4 genuine Brembo rotors for 1990-1997 Accords!!
Just got 'em today... they look awesome. Can't wait to get 'em on.
Next question: ceramic pads or other?

never buy slotted and drilled, you can buy either slotted or drilled, and with drilled expect alot of noise, the reason you dont buy the rotors with both is.... it makes the rotors very weak and fragile, and will possibly crack if you have to "slam on brakes" and if you happen to actually heat them up, they will warp easy... no offense but i hate it when people go out and buy things and not know what to get or what not to get, raybestos  aem  oem  ebc  hawk dunno but i wouldn't buy anything besides these choices, due to the fact they save your life

I had some cross-drilled/slotted rotors w/ aem pads, and the rotors were all warped within a year or so. Plus those rotors are over-twice as heavy as the oem. I think oem is good enough for my "under 200hp" car. I don't see the necessity of getting those race brakes if you don't have a fast/heavier car. you know?

Yeah, I know I probably should have just gone OEM, but it was just too good of a deal to pass up... I'm way too much of an impulse buyer.

one of the reasons i did get them is because of my h22 or "over 200hp" car. i've always thought my brakes were a bit weak, but the ceramics helped (although they warped my oem rotors badly) and i'm hoping that the new drilled/slotted ones will dissipate heat more. I'd rather have brakes that wear out more quickly, but stop better, than long lasting o.k. ones. my 2 cents.

Agreed with birdman also haveing all disc brakes helps out a lot also

The whole cross drilled rotors cracking does happen. Primarily to cheaply made rotors. Quality brake companies actually have a special method for cross drilling rotors. If i'm not mistaken the cheaper companies drill very fast through the rotor causing imperfections in the rotor itself where as a good company will drill slowely causing little to no imperfections. I read this somewhere. Don't know if it's 100 percent true, but i've never heard of a set of endless crossdrilled/slotted cracking. Also if your still worried about it then check into the diamond cut rotors

You're right. That's what I meant to say. If someone is going stay w/ the f22 no boost or nothing, then those performance brakes are totally counter-productive if that person is looking to keep or better acceleration. He may brake better, but since they're a lot heavier, it will be like a tug-o-war w/ braking/accelerating.
Now for the h22, is a different story. You're looking at 60 more hp stock and what like 60lbs heavier. Correct me if wrong there. More weight load on the front to stop. W/ the performance brakes it makes sense, because you have a lot more power and are able to make more than that, w/o having to worry if the brakes are too weak. So, the h22 guys makes sense, but the f22 guys w/o boost doesn't. Just my experience.
