This may seem like a strange question buta fter doing various work on my accord over the years I've noticed and I'm positive you guys have noticed the prominent bolt size on our cars, especially under the hood is 10mm. Just this weekend after helping one of my friends work on his civic (painted valvecover, removed air conditioning among other things) I again made the observation that everthing was 10mm. What I'm wondering is this a honda thing or is it an import thing in general.

It seems to me it's starting to be dominant in all cars...when I was helping my brother put an air intake, throttle body and plenum on his Mustang GT(eew), a majority of the bolts were 10mm just like in mine...maybe its the new standard??:idunno:

just about all bolts on your car are either 8mm, 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, or 17mm... if you have these 5 wrenchs, and sockets you can just about take your car all the way apart,..edit.. motormounts, oil plug, tranny bolts are 17 mm, and dont forget the 36mm for the axle nuts

I was wondering because I want to get some decals made.
10mm Racing or Team 10mm.:cowboy: There's a small group of hondas in my area, at least those that aren't fricken idiots, and I thought it would be kinda cool to get some decals for made.

yup the japanese have been using 10mm standard for a very long time on my old sc400 (92) when i took all of my old body panels off the only wrech i needed was a 10 mm socket

it is a very common size and as such I have lost more 10mm wrenches than all other sizes combined, lol. But realize that its not some big 10mm conspiracy, lol. When an automotive manufacturer is deciding what bolts to use and where there are several things that come into consideration. The main ones being: strength, size(of the hole), and head diameter(will it obstruct other parts). It just so happens that a 10mm meets criteria about 80%of the time. Messed up, huh. If I remember correctly from my V8 days most every body panel on most domestics were 1/2 back then so everone was always like, shit! where the hell did my 1/2 wrench go? I had like 4 of those bastards a few minutes ago, lol.

I've got about 8 different 10mm sockets, some of different lengths. And a few 10mm wrenches as well. With Hondas', you can never have enough 10mm sized tools, lol

hahaha. That's funny->10mm Honda club. Yeah, I found that out after all the mods I did myself, 10mm is most common. I got 3 different 10mm length sockets as well.

The lug nut on your car may be 22mm but the axle nut is 36. Scouts honor

I'm getting some small decals made, about 6 inches long, nothing really flashy or gawdy. Just messing with MS paint I drew a deep well socket with 10MM on it, I'm still trying to decide on 10MM Racing, 10MM Performance or Team 10MM. I'm getting 10MM on my new plates also. I'll post a pic once I decide so you can make some also if you want to

only problem with it being the most common is that it is also the most common one dropped into the motor, and or go missing. lol. Every time I go into autozone i make sure i pick up a 10mm socket or box end wrench. I can't ever keep track of just my 10mm

I've kinda wondered why they don't make more nuts/bolts like the drain plugs on our trannies, just pop on a ratchet and that's it, no socket needed. I suppose then we'd be losing whole rachets instead of just the sockets.:hehe:
I guess losing sockets and having to buy more is what keeps the business going.
