First of all this question would have gone into the interior section of the old tech room... but i can't seem to find it. Does it still exist? Anyways one of my friends had his car stolen over the weekend and of course the alarm didn't do damn thing to stop the thief so i was looking for a better way to secure my car i ran into this steering wheel snap-off kit by tekniq( http://www.tekniqauto.com/US/home.htm ) and was wondering two things:
1) Is this going to be street legal.

2)Has anyone done this install themselves before? If so how do u disarm the air bag before taking off the stock steering wheel.

Any suggestions on other anti-theft devices would be a help. thanx for the help.

i've never heard of or seen the steering wheel thing, but it sounds fairly complicated. one thing that you could do it to wire a simple toggle on off switch in-line with one of the ignition wires. if you hide this somewhere under the dash that you could easily get to, but that no one could see, then no one can start the car without getting to the switch.

If U ask if it's a street legal or not, the answer is: NO! Most of the performance parts or accessories are for offroad use or show purpose only. It's true if some items are legal, such like AEM intakes or Jackson Racing superchargers. Just be wise and keep in your mind if U buy and use it, it's all your responsibility (i.e: if someday U got pulled by the cops or if U have to smog ur car but U have hi performance parts installed...) So it's all up to U....

yeah I don't know if I would go through the trouble of installing something like that, a really WELL placed kill switch would do the trick. Also, if you were really dedicated, you could but a dummy battery under the hood (it doesn't have to hold a charge, any old POS will do), and wire it up to nothing but make it look like its the battery for the car, then have your trunk-mount battery on a breaker that is located under your seat or something. Most thieves don't bring jumper cables :-)

ya that is a good idea, if you dont mind the 50 extra pounds in a car that you are trying to make faster by reducing weight...jk.. no good idea for real though... or what you could do is mount the battery in the trunk, but shave the trunk lock off, an lock the trunk releas... that will take them a little longer to get to... or you could remove the battery fuse, an or the comp fuse...

lmao... I have some other great ideas too that I was working on.. I'm thinking about designing some anti-theft devices... here are a few of 'em:

1) Take apart the shift knob, put a spring loaded 2" very pointy, very sharp blade into it, and cut the knob just enough that the blade can spring through it. Have an electronic control switch (when activated, it prevents the blade from launching)... otherwise once the car is on (key in the forward most position) it jets out and jams through the car thiefs hand. It is also controlled by a sensor on the side of it that makes sure there is a hand on it :)

2) take metal strips and line the backside of the steering wheel with it, then but a tazer and attach the terminals to the alternating metal strips (a similar control switch to the knife)... so whoever steals your car gets tazed the fuck up :)

I have some other ideas but they end in the thief dying, or becoming paralyzed (razor blades in the seat that are targeted towards the spinal cord) so they are less.... acceptable I suppose. Personally I think car thieves deserve whatever someone lays out for them, but thats just me thats not the court system :(

an idea i had was to make a device that you would mount up above the gas an break pedal area so that they would not be able to press either down at all.. at least they will not be able to drive the car... if they tried to cut it off somehow they would find it hard to do, since the angle its in an the fact that it would be made out of two inch solid steal would be hard to get out... at least they would not get your car... its like the club thing they got out now for the pedals, but alot smarter.. cause you cant kick this one at all to make it come off... :D

since we had quick release wheel steering, why don't you try make quick release pedals, quick release shift stick, quick release etc etc... :D
