My stock radio kinda did the samething, when listenin to the radio, it would cut in and out like someone was pressing a mute button. Just switch it out for an aftermarket radio. You'll get a better sound quality by upgrading to an aftermarket stereo. Otherwise, if your trying to keep the stock look, then just go to an auto dismantler, preferably a Honda dismantler, and ask someone inside if they have any stock replacements.

I've gone through several cd players over the years but none has been as reliable as ALIPINE! You won't be disappointed!!!!!!!

Alipine? Is that a new auction stereo knock off like Soundstorm or Rockwood? Lol, j/k man, I knew what you meant. Yeah if you want to go aftermarket, Alpine is definately the way to go. Eclipse too but they are pretty expensive.

Me spell not so good! Its amazing how much heat these things generate. I had to go into the dash and found that the plastic radio/cd harness is warped due to the heat. It would be a good idea to hook up some sort of fan in the back to blow on the cd.

I had an Alpine deck in my '93LX, and it would always shut off on me. I figured it was from the heat, or it was drawing too much power. I returned it and got a cheaper panasonic model, it worked better than the Alpine, but would still shut off. If I slammed my hand down on the dash above it, it would miracously turn back on. After that I did some investigating and found out that it was a bad power supply wire to the radio, so I traced it back to the fuse box and replaced it, that solved that.

you are luck that you didn't short out the whole electrical system. You can always add a capacitor before the radio to avoid that.

I have an older pioneer deck in my car along with 6 channel equalizer underneath it. The equalizer gets pretty hot and I run my deck all the time but it never gets hot to the point of shutting off. I have my stock harnesses and my wires are still cool, so maybe thats why I don't have that problem.

Yeh that's pretty old if you need an equalizer. Also insulating the wires probably will prevent overload or even rerouting the cable is a better idea close to the air conditioner vent. Peace.

I too have A pioneer in my car ( for almost 3 yrs ) never the first problem out of it. But all I am running off of it are the factory speakers.

Maybe you should turn the volume down a little, so you don't make the deck work too hard to push the speakers lol... You running amps?

Next upgrade for you has to be an amp and new speakers. BIG difference!

I might do that after I upgrade the sound system in my wifes Tuscan first.

Use shrink wrap to seal the wires after soldering. That is the greatest stuff!

Your talking about that stuff you heat up to seal the connector ?

Instead of using electircal tape, it is a piece of plastic tubing that you slide over one end and then solder the 2 wires together and then reslide the shrink wrap over the soldered area and then light it underneath with a lighter and it shrinks over the soldered area thus creating a barrier to the solder and insulating it. Available at radio shack for $2.00. If that's what you mean then yes!

Yes, I have heard it works really well.I might just do that when I get around to doing the upgrades.
Thanks for the idea !
