just wanted to let you know of my idea... im sure im not the first, and im not tryin to pass this off as an origianal. anyway, i went to the junk yard and stripped a nice leather boot off of an acura, rubbed it in the mud, walked out and told the guy i was ganna try somthin with ths"scap piece o cloth", he waived me by so i got it free. any ways i pulled out my center console(the black piece)and cleaned the boot, also removed the little round piece of plastic in the tip of the boot, super glued it on there from the bottom, then fitted it back over my shifter. i got the apc shift knob for the automatic thats like 5 inches long (stocked at every shucks in town) then slipped the boot up halfway over it for a clean custom look. adds a little class to the lame automatic center console. next im ganna try it with the e-brake....

Why didnt you just hide the boot under your jacket or something? I think you did to much thinking into this. I figure, the less thinking you need to do to get something done right the better.
But what you did sounds cool. Ive seen it done befor. One friend did this on his civic and I didnt know. I was reachin for a clutch tryin to start the car and he just started to laugh at me. I didnt know nor could I tell.

i was thinking about doing this, but what about the shift release? i found that it was really helpful in removing the center console, which the boot is under, so you might be kinda stuck.

on an auto, next to the shift knob there is a place to put your key that will let you shift gears with the car off..

on the auto trans console, right where the shifter goes into the console there is a slot for a key that releases your tranny, so you can shift in into gear without turning the car on. when getting into the dash, i found it very helpful to shift into 1st gear to give myself the most room to work with.

I moved my friends civic one time using the shift lock release. That was fun. They came back to find there car half way across the parking lot. Its her fault for leaving me alone in the car with two of my best friends.

im going to fill it in with something as well.. that is scary if you think about it.. that is like the jaguars you can use a screw driver to take out the plug on the shifter area an pull it into any gear you want.... i think im going ot work on an idea to fix that problem so nobody can push my car half way across the parking lot... lol

yeah pretty much. I worked at Wilde Honda (in Waukesha WI) and while washing every bodys car and messing with there radios, burning out clutches and stuff, I noticed that with the newer hondas (above 2000) you cant put any key in the shift lock. Alot of this has been due to the fact that they have changed to Lazer cut keys. Though, I wonder if any lazer cut key would work.
Now that we're talkin about breakin into cars...
There was this one "special" kid at work who drove this cyrsler town and country mini van, an older one. Well Some tow truck came one day looking for a green crysler mini van(not his but..) got the key for the right van, saw his, opened it with his key, got it all hookedup, then we right when my co worked saw this , he started running(and since he was a big guy this was extremly funny) and screamin all teary eyed.. "Dont take my Car" That made made my day.

you guys got any pics of the auto shift boot? i was wondering if you just wedge the boot under the seal that was there or did you take up the mid console a little and take away some of the plastic so that you could have a little more room. let me know. i would really like to see some pics.

as far as i know, you just lift up the center consule an put it on.. you dont have to cut anything, an it only takes like 5 minutes to take everything apart an put it all back together...

yea, so i thought i'd try to put a shift boot on, and it worked out fairly well. i had to kinda custom fit the top of it with a tie wrap, but it looks pretty good. one of 2 things would make it look really nice though. either a polished metal piece that i could close around the end of the boot/bottom of the knob, or an automatic shift knob that was skinnier around the base. any suggestions?

matts.... as for a diffrent shift knob, maybe the mugen style instead of that big hidious looking one we got stuck with (stock)

These shiftboots looks cool. Do U think it'll fit our auto? (I mean the one with plate and the ring...)
This one come with a plate and the ring on the bottom... (that im asking)

maybe you could get the one with the ring to fit, but the one without fits without any modification. ichibahn makes a boot that doesn't have that ugly tie thing, just a snap at the top, but the hole at the top is pretty small.
