hi..
im new to this forum, so yeah, cut me some slack :D
anyway, i have a 01 accord v6
i put in some new spark plugs today.. i want a little more punch so i assume i have to go with a cold air intake..(i dont have that much money to spend) also, i hear they increase the mileage, so thats a plus.
what kind of intakes do you guys reccomend?

If you don't have any smog issues in your state then go ahead and get a cheap one. Otherwise I would get a AEM intake cuz they have a C.A.R.B. legal sticker on them. I got my cai for that reason, and for performance of course. That way if I ever get pulled over or when i smog my car, I can leave it on and not be hassled with.

My bad, I didn't look at your profile. If I were you, I'd get a AEM cai. That way your getting the performance garaunteed and its legal as well.

cool cool
the v2 or the normal ones?
and by how much do they actually increase mileage performance/mileage

I've been thinking about getting the V2 for my 6th gen, but I don't know anyone who has it. I guess I would get the original cold air intake for your car. It looks and sounds really nice. As far as gains, I don't see you getting more than about 4-5 horse power from it. As far as mileage difference, I don't think it would be enough to really do back flips over. Keep in mind, cai's won't perform miracles, but they do help your engine breathe a little cooler and easier.

what about a catback system? is that better than the intake for mileage/hp
which ones do you reccomend?
Ricanstylz00
08-30-2005, 01:46 PM
Well basically this is how you should look at it. The faster you bring air n fuel in and out of the engine the faster your car will go. So a catback system is good to get the exhaust out faster, but you'll lose back pressure because your air and fuel intake hasn't increased. The basic bolt-ons are the cai, header, and exhaust. I think that one won't work to its full potential without the other. So in my opinion, I would plan on getting all three bolt-ons. And when you get an exhaust, make sure you don't go more than 2.25" in diameter. If you could only get two things right now, I would first get the cai, then I would get an aftermarket header.....preferably the DC Sports 4-2-1 header.

about the headers.. how hard is it to install and can you do it yourslef?

If you buy the DC Sports header, I know it comes with directions. They are very easy to install, just make sure that you use a torque wrench when tightening the bolts to proper specs. It should have the specs on the directions as well. You could also go OBX, but I've never used them before so I couldn't tell you anything about them. From what AccordEx says about the OBX header, they sound pretty cool and cost a little less than the DC Sports header.

d...d...d...damn!!!! you ask alotta questions!!!! I've got all your answers right here cause mines a 2000 V6
this is exactly what your stuff will look like...only I did single exhaust (3")
1. AEM Cold-Air Intake
2. 3" Magnaflow Cat-back
3. Just go on e-Bay and get some DC Sports headers for about $150

being the senior av6 owner on the boards let me clear a few things up :D
- an AEM v2 intake is prolly your best bet for the j30. Freakin sounds hella mean when vtec kix in!! Believe me i got one on my av6
- go w/ either the magnaflow or comptech exhaust systems. They both look clean as hell on the coupes. Dont have the big ass 5 inch tips on the muffs:
http://images.cardomain.com/member_images/8/web/284000-284999/284598_4_full.jpg
- and as for headers DC dont make em for our cars(that i know of). But if they dont then go w/ either AlphaWerks' system or ::gasp:: Comptech's set(which will run you a good 1200 bux btw!!)

-at what rpm does the vtec kick in?
-the v2 is good for what exactly, other than the sound.. do others give the same performance (the thing isnt cheap, ya kno.. so i really want to know if the extra 100 or so is worth it)
-i dont have a coupe.. so does the magnaflow/comptech exhaust system reccomendation
still apply?
tahnks again for the help

All I know is the V2 starts at a certain diameter and gets bigger and smaller all the way to the throttle body...IDK how that helps
Again, Im not sure but I think V-Tec kicks in at 2500-3000 rpm
Find out for yourself, and start out driving real slow and just keep apply a little more pressure to the pedal until it just kicks, then you'll know...
Personally, because Im like you, the extra money isnt worth it...

Its design is supposedly the best. The bigger amount of air coming in, the more torque, the faster the speed of the air (velocity), the more horsepower.
The bigger piping is suppose to get as much air as possible, then the smaller portion compress the air to coming in quicker to the throttle body giving you as much horsepower and torque as possible.

i guess ill go with the V2 then...
what about the rims.. im coming close to the 40k miles soon, so i need to replace the tires.. how does the size of the rims affect the handling (does it)
whats the biggest an accord can go?
Envious_Accord

for rims i got 18x8.5 racing hart cr's and it still handles pretty well

Yeah AEM is one of the pioneer's in engine performance. I highly doubt that they would spend countless hours and huge figures in R&D on their new V2 if it wasn't going to out perform their original short ram or even their cai.
And "Vtec" for accords is variable. Civics and teggys have their Vtec set to 5,500 rpm. So depending on how much your foot is on the gas, the load, and the speed your going....your accord's Vtec will kick in when it feel the time is right.

damn guy, you have some wide ass rims... mine are 18 X 7.5, anyways check out www.edgeracing.com they have really good bundle prices, but unless you live close to Miami, the shipping will be insane, but no tax to anyone outside FLA. GoodLuck

if u gonna get a v2 look for one on ebay. They'll run ya 350 easy from any import shop online. I got mine from a guy on ebay brand spankin new for 150 plus ship.
and the exhaust systems will work for both. I believe magnaflow has 2 models(one for coupes an one for sedans). the comptech system is just an axle back so it'll work for both.
also imo i wouldnt put anything bigger than a 18 on an accord. I've seen people tuck 20 inchers under the wells but whats the freakin point besides the "bling bling" status??

yeah, I think 17's or 18's will give you the ability to show AND go...and get like a 225-40/35-18 tire (don't go super low profile) 19's or 20's would just add weight to your car and I think the ride quality would be bad
biyatchpleaseii
09-11-2005, 10:50 AM
to get list:
1. V2 on ebay
2. No Rims > 18" (although the 20s look hella nice)
3. headers and catback (magnaflow or comptech)
any brands i should stay away from for rims? or if that list is long, who can be trusted? :D

Good brands that still have reasonable prices are 5Zigen, Falkin, Flik (you may not have heard about this brand), Piaa (A little more expensive), Sovereign
Another thing about bigger rims:
Set of 4-
17's - $700
18's - $800
19's - $1200
20's - $1800 and so on... I wouldn't pay $1000 more for 2 inches more and add 45 pounds each to my ride... (and destroy ride quality...)
If I were you, I'd check out www.wheelguyz.com
They have just about every rim brand you could ever imagine. My advice, is look for brands that you have heard of, but overall, "a rim is a rim". You shouldn't pay more than $1200 on a set of 4 18" rims and tires.
Oh yeah, don't get too emotionally attached to your rims...

i have a V2 on my 6th gen and i love it. I recieved very nice power gains ith the upper range. The sound is absolutely incredible, i love it. The deepest loudest shit ive ever heard. I know this sounds gay but i didnt wanna turbo my car because then i would have to ditch the intake. Best $250 spent, IN MY LIFE!!!!!

I never heard of not being able to use an aftermarket intake because of turbo. I believe that would only be the header, as you would use a turbo manifold. Just from the research I was doing and from what turbo setups Ive seen.

Yeah, before I got my exhaust I hit 3 grand just to show off the intake. Also, when you turn off the ignition, you hear the air being released. But you shouldn't let it fool you... It sounds powerful, but true HP gains are only around 5hp... if that. Now, build up your motor and you will squeeze much more out of it. The 25hp claims are on fully built NA racecars, not the average tuner who probably does an intake of some kind first thing. I mean, my friends grandma has an intake, nothing special. You will see as you do more and more to your car, how different things affect its performance. For now, get your headers and a nice exhaust, then work on getting other parts to better your timing response.

All the setups ive seen run the intercooler piping to the throttle body thats what i meant, but again thats only the ones ive seen

I love mine. Just be smart man dont go flooring it through puddles and youll be straight. Believe me the V2 is F***ing CRAZY!!!!!!!!!

The V2 doesnt even leave the engine bay so you dont have to worry about water, unless you plan on going diving in your car. Take our word and go out and get the damn thing, You'll be happier than pig in shit with it. I know I couldn't stop smiling!!!
