View Full Version : Check Engine Light

I recently bought a '00 Accord EX 5spd with a f23a4, with 94k miles. The MIL or check engine light just came on so I brought it to AutoZone an had them read the code. It was free but he had the cheap computer so it did not give the specific code. It read something like "fuel air metering". Does anyone know what this means?
When I bought the car, the stock air box was removed and a K&N air filter was installed in its place. I bought a recharger kit for the filter and cleaned it. The thing was filthy, I'm wondering if it was on there for all 94k. I put it back on and it sounds like a vacum sucking air into the engine. When I poped the hood at the dealership I couldn't hear that noise at all. I am obviously still new to this, is that normal? was it bad that I couldn't hear it before? will this keep the MIL from coming back on?

Oops, no one responded to this question. My bad, I need to stay more on top of that. If you still want to know how to check for codes when your engine light comes on then let me know. The vaccum sound you heard was probably cuz it was so filthy and after cleaning it, it regained a lot more air flow. So I wouldn't really worry about that. Is your check engine light still on?

i had my engine light come on and i took it to the dealer he said that it was just something small, and the system said that it was fine, just running a little lean, he dleared it and it came back, i took it to autozone and the comp said it was a aux. emission component or something to that order. any thoughts?

I'm having the exact same problem right now.... the only difference is that it's an automatic trans an it's an LX. Went to autozone and they read the code off and it was "P1167 Air/fuel metering system" as of now I have replaced both oxegen sensors and the damn thing came on afterwards again! Can somebody please tell me or show me how to check the codes and how to fix this darn problem ASAP, Just want to say thanks in advanced.

lol, no it's the actual "Check engine light" car runs fine, but sometimes the rpm's drop real low when coming to a stop.....basically borderlining a stall out. Another thing I have noticed is poorer gas mileage, other than that the car runs great. One more thing, is there any other way of clearing the codes other than disconnecting the negative battery cable? Any help would be appriciated, thanks.
Tony.

could be an injector, i had the same problem when i had my prelude, one of the injectors was leaking, so i sold the car for like 1200, even tho i got it for 800.lol. but yea, do u smell any gas when u open the hood when the car is hot?

No smell of fuel anywhere in sight!................ please someone has got to know how to fix this problem. Please I don't want to take it to Honda for just a simple fix.

I guess the K&N recharger kit did it for me. The MIL hasn't come on for 3,000 miles. Someone told me that it probably just wasnt getting enough air, so it was not burning all of the fuel.

To clear the codes, turn off the car completely, go over to the passenger side and open the fuse box. Remove fuse no. 13 (7.5 amp) for a few minutes. Some people say 10 seconds, but I leave it out for about 10 minutes for good measure. Afterwards, put the fuse back in and start the car, the engine light should be off.
Is the computer still under the passenger foot well? I looked real quick on my luch break, but didn't notice it.

no, its not a major problem. That light is usualy an indicator to tell you that you need to do some regular maintenance stuff. Have you done a timing belt job? Or have you replaced any of the belts, flush every liquid...theres a big list of things you should do at around 90k miles. Just stick your key in that little whole to take it off.
wait, are you talking about the actual engine light? or that little green slot that turned either yellow or red?

if its the actual engine light, then you gota see which code its throwing. You can go to your autoparts store and use their OBDII diagnostics tester and see if they can pull the code for you, but if they cant, then do it yourself.
Heres a DIY on how to check for the codes. I THINK it might be different for you since you are OBDII and that DIY was meant for an OBDI car.
