View Full Version : is 6th gen a lost cause?

damn! i have to say im discouraged about my car. i love accords and the 6th gen is my favorite but im coming to the conclusion that is a heavy slow family car with a weak tranny and no low end torque; no matter how hot it looks. but i guess the family relaibilty is what brought me too it. at the end of the day i know its good for a least 200k miles. plus i get great gas mileage.

although being the young man that i am i would like to smoke somebody not potentially get my ass handed to me by a gay ass neon srt. its not even that i dont want to put the work into it to make it faster; thats the fun part. but when the 7th gen comes stock at 240hp and it will take a load of mods for the 6th gen just to get there; i see there is such big a gap in technology/potential between generations i might as well wait and get an 8th gen.

i think in the mean time i will just drive the hell out of my av6 and try to learn as much as i can about mods and cars and when the next gen comes out try to mod that. the idea of building a car up and modifying it greatly apeals to me, but i feel with the gen i have now its not worth putting the work in when the field is so uneven over a few short years. i figure if i cant even beat the next gen of my own car how can i beat anything else. for one i want a av6 with a 6spd, and not so damn far to go to get it to 300hp. you have to admit its a lot easier to make up 60hp than 100+hp. and less money too.

i dont want to just go out and buy a sports car just so i can be fast. the whole thing is taking something that no one expects to be fast and smoking them with it. plus i want a good car and make it better not have a fast POS and not be able to rely on it. with honda i know what im getting. i cant drive a civic though i might as well be in a shoe box.

i dont know. maybe ive been spending too much time on v6p.net. if there is any one that agrees or disagrees with what ive come to believe let me know. if im wrong and its not a lost cause please give me the arguments. if im right see you at generation 8. i only have 65k on my car and a lot of driving to do.

65K is not a lot of miles and there is still a lot of potential there. But if you really see that you're car isnt going anywhere then maybe it is a time for upgrade for you.

The way I look at it, I see my car now as being underpowered and not as fast as I want it to be right now. But I look into the future and see how far I've come and what other things I can do to upgrade it and make it better and faster. I allready did few modifications and it allready feels like a totally different car then before I had it when it was all stock. I mean I'm not looking for my car to be hitting 11s and 12s in 1/4 mile, I'll be happy satisfied with high 13s and a car that has a nice handling and nice look to it and that satisfies me.

It really all comes down to how much you care about your car and what you really want. You have to set a goal on what you really want to get out of a certain car.

yeah i see your point. im not trying to go out and race vets or prosches or anything stupid like that. and i want a car thats good on the street. the track is good if your into that. but i want a street rod not a dragster. im not interested in just speed. if that was the case i'd buy a motorcycle. i mean i feel like i have a great car. it handles well. great gas milage. never breaks down on me. and i know for a fact its going to last. so i figured ill drop it and make it more fun to take around curves, which there are a lot in my daily drive plus it looks bad ass. then i started thinking i love the way it drives so let me mod a couple things in the engine and it will be the shiznit. but after researching i found a lot of obsticles. the major being the tranny. plus no turbo option with out going through a lot of bs. i know about the tranny cooler and its not that expensive, but replacing/machining cams, troque converters, boost, tranny swaps, along with a lot of other things is a little over whelming. i dont know, maybe when i get a little older i would wap out the tranny for a manual. i guess i lost tack of what i originally strated making mods for, which is to make a car i love a little bit better not turn a family car into an indy 500. i guess i needed a dose of reality. but i have aquestion. what the hell is a blower? and what does it do? ive seen a few people say if you want to go fast you will need it so whats a blower?

they're talking about a turbocharger or a supercharger usually

ok i have new hope i just saw on v6p.net that tjp_accordv6 got in the 14s and he didnt have that much done to the engine. basically some of the basic stuff although a slew of mods for the rest of the car. but i have some questions. what is a blower? what is a DIS? what does N/A mean? whats port and polish? and how does that stop a car from being n/a? how would a car be boosted? why is that some people put all kinds of mods on their car and cant break the 15s, while others only put a few mods on and can break 14? is it the tunnig? or are there better mods being made for our cars as time goes on?

NA means Normally Aspirated. That means no turbocharger, supercharger or nitrous is being used. Its all motor. Car stops being normally aspirated when its turbocharged, supercharged or nitrous equipped.

DIS? I dont know what that is and never heard of it before.

Porting widens up the ports so you can get increased airflow, the polishing just makes everything smooth and nice so the air doesnt have to work against anything, just flows in better and easier.

Some people get better time in 1/4 than others due to their engine tuning. Also the driver and what kind of condition the engine is, there is many factors.

When some one of says "blower" they're usually talking about a turbocharger or a supercharger.

DIS - Direct Ignition System. Its what 00-up AV6's have. Meaning no spark plug wires or distributor.
