I recently ran some track times
I had 92octane 76 gas and ran a best of 16.83 in the 1/4 mile this is with my all stock 89 accord lx (100hp) automatic with a stereo system in the trunk.
some other times were 17.39 and 17.36 and were more consistant
But when I put in Arco gas 87 octane my car started running 19.89 and 19.99
I know gas octane makes a difference but it shouldn't make your car two in half seconds faster.
What gas do you guys put in your car?
what?!

.i wish we still had 92. we're down to 91 now. i try and use that whenever possible but there were a few times times when i had to use 89. 87 is only when i'm really desperate or short on cashish. i'm not racing so i don't really need the higher octane but i guess it's better to burn "cleaner" gas...

a few miles away there is a place that sells jet fuel. i heard that gives ur car alot more speed. but im sure it kills ur engine, still worth a few times

yeah, we've got a penny pantry that sells race gas in the back of it. It's nice to be able to fill your tank with race gas on friday nights, or on the way to the track. They've got 101, 103, 114.

Could this is pure psycological? like you put in the 87 grade and then dont push your car as fast as you did when you had the 92.. Its called self-fulling prophecy. I mean im not calling you a lier, but 2 seconds sounds like alot. Does that mean you drained all of the 92 gas out and put all 87... or did you just waited till you needed to refill? there for mixing gas.

I'm pretty sure I ran out of all the 92 octane since I drove about 15 miles with the fuel light on. With the 92 my car shifted smoother and I felt more TQ off the line, but with the 87 my car was jumping in the rpms and it took a lot longer to reach higher Rpms. I don't think it is psychology because it is an automatic and all you do is floor it.

I put in 92 all the time in my car although I think up here in the Northeast gas is a little cheaper (92 $1.80 a gal.). Along with higher octane there are also conditioners and cleaners that help wear on your engine over a long period of time. I also only go to Sunoco's.
Maybe its not only the gas in your car but the conditions under the hood. Everythings stock is it well taken care of? How long have you had the car? Whens the last time you used some fuel injection cleaner?

I bought it with 31,000 original miles from some 85 year old guy now it has 45,000 so it runs like new and got the 45,000 tune up.

Is that the only tune-up you've done? The number of miles still hasn't told me how long. What about the injection cleaner? Did Honda due the tune-up? Have to answer all the questions.

you said you"put in" the arco fuel. Was this done at the track on the same day and did you fill it up cause if you did you added like 200 lbs to your car when you did which would slow you down a bit anyway but I doubt it would slow you down 2 sec.

arco has more alcohol in it.. which is bad for plastic parts.. and what not.. it also increases Volatility .. something liek that.. makes the fuel more unstable i tink
also ur times can be affect by weather.. and how much fuel u run each time.. also ur running different octane

Mad Max you ask a lot of questions. I have had the car for 2 years but what does that have to do with 1/4 mile times. Everything is stock but I change my own oil and use synthetic(for the past 2 years) and K&n oil filter but when I had my 45,000 mile check up they replaced this with honda parts. I have never used fuel injection cleaner with 45,000 miles on the car I don't know why I would need to use that. yes that is the only tune up unless you count oil changes and a fram performance air filter(no intake just replacement filter.)
As for liltroy I had the stereo system on both days and ran the car in the same weather sunny with about the same temp 60 f

I think we've crossed wires somewhere here.1. I didnt say anything about the stereo.2.When I asked about you filling it up, what I meant was...Did you make your first few runs on close to empty tank and then your times went up when you filled it completely up cause the extra weight of the full tank of fuel could slow you down some.3.Sunny weather doesnt matter as much astemperature and relative humidity which I believe may have been what 5speedcoupe was getting at.4.You said your car felt jumpy? This could either be a sign of water in the fuel or fuel filter becoming clogged after sucking up debris from the bottom of your fuel tank after running 15 miles with your fuel light on.Either of those two things could drop 2 sec easily.I'd change the fuel filter(they're not expensive and need to be changed every 30,000 at least anyway)and put some water remover treatment in your tank(even if its not the problem it couldnt hurt).
