a friend of my mine was lookin for a new car, and he started lookin at a nissan sentra SE-R spec V. i noticed that its timing belt was chain. they put a side note in saying that this was so the the belt would never break and gives better timing or sumthin like that. Now i was wondering is it possible to do the same thing for my accord? and if so does anyone think it would have the same or a better effect?

I am not sure, but I believe that timing chains are more accurate (can't really slip), but it seems to me that a belt is going to be lighter and easier to move, and thus take up less horsepower. Also, I don't see why a chain is necessary I only need to tune my timing like once a year or so... I guess the chain would get rid of that but it seems harly worth it. However, any moving parts that are metal outside of the engine that aren't lubricated properly are bound to grind metal and leave a mess in your engine bay, so it seems to me like a bad idea and I don't see any real advantages to it except
1) not needing a timing light
2) freeing up 5 minutes a year
3) occasional timing belt replacements (few and far between though)
so to sum up, I'm sure it could be done.. the question is... why bother?

yeah cause you would need to get a custom cam gear wouldnt you?

you'd need a custom pulley on each end of the timing belt that fit a chain on it, and it'd have to hook up to the drivetrain and the camshaft properly. Not sure what all that would entail, but that is a general synopsis of it.
