DIY Tails Amber Removal

Well here is mine I just posted my own. All I took pics of was the tools I used and the actual tail light. This is for my 96lx. VERY easy to do! I used a heat gun and heated this carving tool and just cut down the sides and middle of the amber piece. Split it up with the needle nose and pulled it out. I wont lie the first time around I didnt do it like this and I pretty much scratched up all the inside silver but that can be painted again. Second time around was simple and took less than 15 mins. Ok sorry its so long.

very nice, very nice. i like it. i almost want to take the tint off my tails cuz i took the amber part out too and when its not tinted it looks so sweet. decisions decisions

yep...i just replaced mine, the 7440's when i did the amber removal project...i accidentally got grease/dirt on the bulb...anyways, can't u guys use a red bulb for your rear signals???i have amber in the front and red in the back to match the "RED and CLEAR" tails...

I actually thought about using red but I think it shows up pink when flashing and I dont like that. If it was solid red say through Crystal Clear lens Id like that. I actually went out and bought 7443 and they fit fine in place of the 7440. I couldnt find the 7440 in amber.

my friend got a ticket for clear blinkers in the front and rear. He said the cop told him it has to be either amber or red.

I have the Polarg bulbs in the back for my blinkers. I think technicaly they are illegal but Cop's haven't sweated me about them (knock on wood). They probably would if my car had more stuff to look at like bodykits, wing, etc. But anyways, they look like the BMW rears, hella bright when signaling. I can see the street reflect the light when looking through my side mirrors.

in washington you have to have amber turn signals. and i like the amber bulbs anyways so i go with those. its cooler to see a light with no amber on it and then it blink amber when it goes off.

Yup I like it too...the ones I bought lean more towards orange than amber but still look good.

yah, those Polarg bulbs are pretty decent and cheap too. All of my blinkers are Polarg. Here in Hawaii u can go red rear blinkers also cuz a lot of the newer cars have that red and clear tails, such as the civics and the 2005 altimas.

Mine show up dark red when they blink. U gotta get the dark dark red bulb-they almost look close to black, but not quite. I had clear rear bumper lenses w/ the red bulbs are they were pink, but the bulb was just a fire engine red.

.tail lights are red for a reason. red light doesn't decrease night vision at all. like in a dark room when someone turns on a light and then shuts it off, you can't see anything for a while, red light doesn't do that much, if at all (astronomy class is good for something). the orange/amber is similar too (photography lab this time) but it's not as good as red for night vision. if you have white lights in your rear, it fucks with your night vision that's why i don't like it when new "custom" bimmers signal. they hurt...

shouldn't have problem finding them in a performance shop. That's where i got mine at. I didn't want amber cuz that would throw the whole red and clear look i was trying to obtain. red and clear then all of a sudden amberish blinking contrasting the scheme? i dunno. :idunno:

Yeah I understand that...If I can find some dark reds Ill get em for the rear and just put the rear amber bulbs up front.

Ok updated pic...this is the amber piece removed and the tool I used. Thats a carving tool and ya just heat that tip and slice the amber piece in half. Keep the tip hot and just slice away! DONT PRESS TOO HARD so ya dont go through the amber piece. After that ya just pull it out with some needle nose. Easy first time if ya do it right. Oh dont remove the tabs until after its cut MUCH EASIER!
