hello everyone, if someone could give me some tips with this it would be great. What i want to do is install some autometer style racing guages into my dash above the glove box like in this picture: http://www.accordracing.com/featuredrides/1994-1997/am27/image.asp?picc=07

If anyone here knows how or has done this before i would greatly appreciate any tips or if possible step by step instructions on how to do this. I have 3 obx 2 1\16 guages that i would like to install on the dash just like in the picture of the link i posted.

any help would be great.

thanks

Why don't U try to use those triple pillar gauge pod... so U don't have make those holes on your dash.. <- Just my opinion... See other thread in this Interior section... Garrett found one of those nice pillar... :)

i was gonna origanlly get a guage pod but i decided i wanted to try somethin different, and i like how the guages look mounted in the dash. thanks for the input though.

another idea, make a little plastic strip so you can put the guages under the headunit. you could also angle them towards you. it seems like the guages infront of the passenger wouldn't do you much good, but if you could see them, it would be much better. you could also cut up a guage pod meant for something else, and make it fit.

i also dont see the use in haveing gauge pods u cant really see...i made an area for gauges where the ashtray and cig lighter were....there are pics in the link in my sig.....

-if ur determined to put these in ur dash tho....i would pull ur glove box and make sure there arent any wires back there.....then measure everything out.....measure twice....maybe three times....and then cut once....and i would cut the hole a little smaller than the gauge itself and dremel what is barely needed out so it fits snug...

...good luck either way

welp, a freind of mine works at best buy and got me a little sheet of 1/8" (maybe a little thicker) black abs plastic used for installs alot....well...pretty much...
-after i removed the ashtray and all things that could be removed in that area....i cut the rear housing for the cig lighter out to make room for the gauges....
-next i made a template out of thin cardboard, or tagboard....same thing pretty much....fitting and trimming etc etc to the shape i wanted...
-transfered the template over to the sheet of plastic, but cut a little outside of the line, so i could gradually trim down and make a tight fit...
-marked out how big and where i wanted the holes and trimmed that out similarly
-i sanded a angle along the bottom of the peice so it would fit more flush and create less of a gap
-epoxied the back edges so it wouldnt move..
-installed gauges

the easiest way to do this is w/ a dremel....using the drill bit cutter, cutting wheel, and barrel type sander(probly need 2 of these)

it wasnt too hard, just time consuming going back and forth
but such is life when u want to do something nice

Thanks for the tip, i saw ur car pics and i like the guage install, ill keep that as a option but i still think i might try mounting above the dash board. In your pics i noticed u had a msd box. How do u like it? i was thinking about getting one.

welp, i dont have it hooked up yet actually, i havent hooked it up cuz i hav been developing a bad miss in my car, and i dont want to make the problem any worse...i wanna make sure its fixed and then ill hook that up...im also gonna be getting a MSD distr. cap and blaster coil....

supposedly, iv heard that u wont gain any real noticeable performance from this unless ur boosted and need a hotter spark....but my dad had the msd box sitting in his garage so i figured why not? supposedly ull mostly only get a lil better gas mileage...but ill take that, im always lookin to save a buck:)
