They both have pros and cons to them. H22 is already set at (USDM)195 hp and (JDM)200hp. Higher compressed, V-tec'd, and a good N/A engine project. The H23 approx. 160hp is non vtec (although some jdm H23 engines are vtec'd), lower compressed, longer stroke, perfect for F/I whether your gonna super or turbocharge it. Thats basically in a nutshell.

i thought i saw stats showing jdm h23 vtec at 220hp? true?
anyways, i'd go with h22(a7 if possible) for the fact that its cheaper and there are a lot of parts readily available in a lot of yards if you need to pick anything up for it. the h22 is a good NA engine and if you want to really get some high numbers with FI or something then i'd suggest h23 but its a lot more money to get it all done. also, you could always try the frankenstein h22 head on h23 block but once again, its about how much $$ you got to spend.

the 220hp engine is the type-s i believe..i read the previous stats on another forum searching for the answer but i dunno, cuz almost all the other forums have different horsepower/torque specs for both the h22 and h23..but i agree i'd go with a h22 over a h23... h23 would be only good with Forced Induction as u said...yeah, i heard about the h22 head on the h23 block frankenstein..that would be sick...lol

The research i been doing on the h22a7, it says 212hp. The type s says 220. And now for the one that every site says something different, the h23a VTEC. I've read 225hp, from a site selling them, then i've read 200hp. I know they came outta the jdm accord wagon (CH9) and they only came stock with an automatic tranny.

I read that the Jdm trannies all come loaded with auto and 5spd is an option
like vice-versa here in the US....that's another reason why im sticking with auto tranny...i want my Si-R project as JDM as i can get...

Without a doubt...Did you end up getting an engine yet? Cause i was just thinking you could do what i did and just buy the regular H22 and get ferrea valvetrain (roller rocers specifically) which lock the vtec locker with the other rockers, eliminating vtec. Does anyone REALLY know why you shouldn't run VTEC with a turbo motor? Most people just swear by it but have no REAL reason to believe it besides 'i heard someone say it was bad...' Just wondering.....

me? no engine yet, too many bills and too little money. I been getting some pretty impressive deals engines from people i know tho and thats a good thing cause i can actually check the engine out before i buy it. I've heard the vtec and a turbo thing so many times lol. All my friends have turbos on thier cars which have b16's and b18's in them and they have yet to have any problems and there shit merks for only running 7 psi, on stock internals.

no vtec and turbo.. i hear that alot too.. and dont noe if they are dump or its really something to it.. but this is what i tink they say they dont want vtec and turbo but to me i dont see how it can be a bad thing
let see.. since ur boosting rite.. and ur reving up.. den vtec kicks in.. bam its ont a whole new set of cams and more air and fuel is being added.. but ur turbo doesnt knoe that.. and it gets a screwy if u tink bout it.. its like running really fast and out of knoe where u get slapped lol.. i ono. something like that :hmm:

I was reading some today, it said if you take a f22 crank, rods, and pistons and slap it on a h22 you will end up with 2300cc's of displacement. I wanna look into this, but I read it in a book on honda engines. Thats some good shit if its true. Now all I gotta do is look up the exact bore and stroke on each engine and do some thinking. The only thing that gets me is in the book it says f22? I can understand the f23, but the f22?? My only guess is that it is a typo

Oh yeah i found out what the deal is on that vtec with turbo deal.............
"Normally aspirated cams, especially high RPM oriented such as DOHC
VTEC's have longer duration and overlap. when you use force induction,
you don't need all this duration and overlap... a properly engineering
VTEC cam for turbo applications would offer KILLER torque curve and
power."
Overlap is used as a way of exiting exhaust gases to actually suck in
the intake charge. This is partly what VTEC does, kind of a wanna be
turbocharger. So imagine if you have a lot of overlap on a turbo.
Under boost, the compressed air would blow right through the cylinder.
You wouldn't get all that quality compressed air to stay in the cylinder!
This is why B18A/B motors respond so well to turbocharging with
cam sprockets and JG Engine Dynamics #1001 camshafts. The camshafts
are used to maintain peak cylinder pressure and sprockets dial it all in.
The turbocharger can cram all of it's boost into the cylinder.
So far no one has good turbo VTEC cams. It is questionable whether
or not sprockets can dial enough overlap out to use 100% of the turbocharger's
output.
VTEC motors do respond well to turbocharging, but there's still a lot of room
for improvement.
NOTE : I didn't write this, and I don't take responsiblity for it, I got it off http://www.evotuners.com/hondafaq.htm

personally, i love the H23/H22 conversion, but if i had known how much money wouldve been involved, i wouldve just bought myself the h22 and rebuilt it, but as far as hp goes it definitely has more potential, its really up to you and what your goals are with the motor. i got mine ported and polished, 5-angel valve job, and rebuilt all the internals with racing parts, blueprinted, the whole works, got it dynod at 313bhp@6100, now i just need Garret GT70 Turbo Kit with about 25 psi to boost me nuff power to smoke a big block corvette or bmw...or do you just plan on beating the local teens with hooked up lil civics & tegs? Like i sed, it all really on what your goals are, my goal is to smoke a souped up bmw with LOTS of hp or some redneck-American-Car-Loving Nascar-Loving-40-year-old-man with a corvette.
