converting your auto to a 5spd is a LONG and expensive process. Given that on 94-97 Accord, the holes for the clutch master cylender don't exist, and you will spend at least $2000 for a brand new tranny with 2 year warranty (which is highly recommended, just because of the cost of a replacement tranny), and you'd have to buy a 5spd shifter, clutch pedal, connecting rods, etc etc etc...so you could be spending near $5000 total for parts and labor, and be left in excess of a month without a car (depending on who does the mod)....the only reason I know all this is because I have a 95 accord with an automatic, and I wanted a 5spd, but everyone told me the same thing - "It's easier to buy a new car"....I wasn't happy with that, but I discovered that you can buy automatic shifter kits that improve 1/4 mile times, and you can get a performance torque converter for around $450 that advertises to take off a 1/2 sec. I understand the desire to want to drive a stick-shift, cause I still have my AT, and still want an MT, but if I can get the 1/4 mile time of an MT, then it doesn't bother me as much.
here's that torque converter I mentioned....if you're interested

Personally, I don't feel it's worth it to spend between $3000 and $5000 on a 5spd. I still really want one, but I'm just gonna wait til my car is totaled...then I'll get a MT car. Just my opinions - you can do what you want.

man i dont know what shops you have around your area 95accordvtec but that sounds like they are talking aobut the hole swap, not just the trannie... if they are only talking aobut the trannie swap, then they are trippen big time.. around my area it is like $700 for the trannie, pedals an all an then like $600 to install it an it will take a 4 hours to a day to do it unless they are backed up an having to work on several cars at once...
a complete swap would be more like $2000. plus install is still about the same amount $700, but the extra pats is were it would add up, but it would not exced $3000... sucks if you would have to pay $5000 jsut for a trannie swap though...

On most cars, I do full tranny swaps including parts for around $2300-3000 depending on the car and cost of parts. It usually takes about 2-3 days if I don't get too distracted by other stuff, but I usually ask to have the car a week so that I have enough time to test the finished product and I don't have to cut any corners. I have a Honda part recycler locally that will offer one, two or three year waranties on all parts so going used is not too big of a deal. It's not difficult, just very time consuming.
