have you seen teh TYC jaguar type-S style tails... or are those nto what you are looking for... i see those all day on E-bay... or do you want all red, including the backup lights... if so you could get the stain glass paint by KRYLON an just paint them yourself (found at just about any craft store, in an 8oz can)....

I would think that it would be those. I think that is as much red as your gonna get and still be legal with a clear portion for reverse lights.

Sorry to break your bubble bro, but they only make so many styles and you can pretty much garauntee that a bunch of people are rockin every style. Unless you can become a custom fabricator over night....these are your choices.

That's the exact picture i referred to last year, he lives in hawaii too....i was in the same predicament u were in and not many people had the jaguar tails so i got them for myself at christmas last year....a lot of people have been asking about where to get them cuz they didn't know about them cuz of the altezza trend was going on...and i was like "yeah!!!"That was the response i was looking for cuz i don't want my car looking like everyone's else either....
you can get them for $140 at Racerwheel.com....Cheapest out there unless there's ebay....

if you want all red, buy some red lense paint on ebay. i did that with black and it looks sweet.
and, next thing i do to my tail lights is i'm breaking out that amber piece of plastic thats over the blinker and putting yellow bulbs in. i hate how it looks oddly yellow when its not lit up. i'm sorta doing the same thing up front xept slightly different. i'm getting clear corners, taking the clear reflector out, painting it black and sticking it back in there. i think its gonna look awesome but havent done it yet.

to all those who are going to spray their lenses: you do not need to take the plastic cover off, you dont even need to take them off your car if you dont want to. all you need is about 6 hours, a lot of newspaper and some blue painters tape. when spraying, SPRAY LIGHT COATS, dont read the directions and do two or three coats heavily, it will drip and look like crap. you have to do about 10 or 15 coats to get a solid color, but stop at as many coats as you thinks looks good. do it in the evening or night, let it dry over night, take off tape and newspaper and you can drive away that day.
btw those are not the 97 tail lights so be sure that if you buy them you are buying the correct ones. turns and sides dont matter, they work 96 or 97

to birdman, you dont spray your headlamps. read this thread, it talks about jdm blacking out the headlights, its not very easy. and do not spray onto your headlights, its just a bad idea cuz of reduction of light when you try driving at night. http://www.topendmotorsports.com/members/showthread.php?t=2972
blanquito, you can do it on your own for cheaper than what he is going to charge. i believe its like 30+ or something like that when you can get like 5 cans of spray for that. yes they do look very sharp though, but its not something you couldn't do yourself. besides, its much more satisfying doing it yourself, it was for me anyways. putting the last few coats on, taking off the tape and newspaper and it hits you, wam. mmm that looks nice. plus, you have to mail in ur headlights i believe which means ur gonna be driving around without lights for a few days while they are tinted by him.

um it doesnt reduce ur lighting.. cuz the part u are painting are not really to reflect on to the road.. its the damiond looking things that do the reflecting.. cuz i blacked mine out and if u really think u can see that well.. jsut aim them a little higher.. but really.. i notice little or no diff.. . i mean.. i guess tonite.. if i get a hold of a camera.. i take a pix of mine in the car and u a can see that i have aim mine higher.. cuz i live in LA now for skool and its to blind jerks.. but really they are fine if u black them out.. dont care wat anyone says.. i knoe cuz i have them.. ppl just stupid and dont have lights aim correctly..

Ok here is my problem I dont understand the whole clear coating. I clear coated my corners and they came out lookin like orange peel skins. They were prepped right just couldnt get the clear coat to work. Someone post pics of their tails after using that spray because I dont believe they come out lookin as good as the ones dude is sellin on ebay.

u can only spary one coat of paint.. like a transpart red coat and only one good coat of that.. wait for that the really dry and only one coat of clear coat.. u cant do many coats for lens.. cuz i knoe others that tryed but u really only get once good shot.. and thats it.. cant do more than one of each.. dont care what other say.... cuz i knoe from this guy that did it.. he had to redo.. and he done the test.. so if u knoe how to do more than one coat.. plz show..

12-07-2004, 08:39 AM
the only reason why the paint job will not be that good is if the person painting dont know shit about aerisol paint.... if you can paint at all then you have enough sence to paint a little ass tail light... i dunno... im concidering doing that to mine but i dont wanna cover up the backup lights... maybe do a thin coat over that area or something... also in further inspecting of those lights from the pics, it looks like he might have used a much darker red such as (HOUSE OF COLORS KANDY BRANDY WINE) or something like that... that could be the reason why he is charging so much for them, that paint aint cheap at all... just a thought....an sort of a hint....

cool someone finaly listened to me on that paint.... if you want it to make good even coats make sure that you place it in to warm water for a little bit first before using... an second i would recamend 75% spray pattern...(that is when you do one line over the next one but only cover 75% of that first line.) make sure that you are no more the 6-7" away no closer do to heavy spots, an make sure that you wait atleast 2-5 minutes between each coat...(this is so that it does not sag on you or run)...

aright time to clear up a few things. when i said dont paint the front lenses, i said dont spray the actual plastic lense on the outside, diy jdm is a dif thing totally. and i smoked all of my lights xept headlights and corners with black, put 4 coats on it, not quite as dark as i want it so i'll be putting a few more on soon. it already comes out pretty shiny so i dont think i'll put any clear coat on it.
also, paint thinner wont work to remove it, you need laquer thinner or as 5speed said, nail polish remover works too.
russia, when i smoked my lights i left the backup lights unpainted too. looks sweet though with the painted lights with the back up light section still white

These aren't the best pics, but it shows the basics. Its not rocket science, the most time you'll spend on it is taping the headlights. Make sure you tape EVERYTHING in the center...up, down, all around. And make sure you round your edges also cuz they will show up after your done spraying and the tape comes off. Dun dunn dunnnn :)
Other than that. Have fun and bring a friend to help you out. Makes for some good bonding time. lol
