What exactly is the best timing for our cars perfomance wise. I'll basicaly say this in english just because I myself don't fully know how to explain this. I know how to time them and I've done it before, and some times I haven't use the timing light. It seems that if you stand in-front of the car and twist it towards the the back of the car, it's seems to have more torque and low end power (I know it's suposed to give you more torque than horespower, and I heard it gives you like 5 hp) But I turned it a little back to the rear and it felt alot faster, i was getting better second gear cherps and better pull. Then I put it all the way back to the rear and I heard someone say it chances your compression ratio and you have to have higher octane, I left mobil 87 octance, and I heard no knocking or pinging and it didn't feal as fast as before. So I then turned it back towards me all the way and drove it. It felt slow as hell of the line but with a little pull towards high rpms. So i figured it's either worse or it just gives you higher rpm power that our cars already have. I asking though what would be the best timing though, what degree or whatever. Someone told me our cars can go up to 20 degress. I don't really know, the only way is to find out. I know back in the good ol' accord racing site it was posted but i didnt fully read it and I know acclude answerd it, I mean we all know pat knows everything. So i guess this is mainly for pat. but other people probly know....yea I'm done talking....

If you want, I can let other people answer. I know tons of other people know this stuff....they're just not answering, so I figure I might as well?
At idle (700-800rpm) the factory secification is 13-17 deg. You can take it lower or higher, but your car will run like ass unless you have done modifications that permit you to need it. Turbo may require you take it lower and all motor may require you to take it higher depending on gas grade, boost, comp. ratio, motor condition, etc. Every car wears in different and is in different condition so you kinda gotta set it to that motors characteristics. If you want to advance it more, try a higher grade gas. You said you had no knock problems with 87 so that's not the issue, but you might have see more of a benifit advancing it if you used higher grade gas. The higher the grade, the slower and more evenly it burns. By igniting that mixture slightly sooner, it allows it to burn more thoroughly which would mean more power, better gas mileage and less unburned gas in your exhaust. It may be so little of a difference that it's not worth it. The more performance mods you have done, the more noticeable it should be.

Well all the mods I have are CAI, throttle body from KMS, Headers and 2.25 cat back with 3.5 tip, plus plugs and wires(which arent really mods). and I "fully tuned it up." So I wouldn't really know what to put it at, I have 93 octane in it now and it's been all snow and ice where i live so I can't really rip it and I probly wouldn't rember how quick or slower it was before , but what would you suggest and how much do you think it would help? thanks pat

It sounds cold as hell where you are, so don;t go too extreme one way or the other. With 93 gas, you should be fine at 17 and that's prolly gonna be where the most power is.
