First off let me start by saying I am new to the web site and am looking forward to getting some really great ideas of what to do to my new ride. I just aquirerd a 99' accord EX-L SOHC V-TEC with a 5-speed trans. I wont be able to pay it off for a year or so...so I was thinking the best place to start modifing would be the stereo. I would really like to hear about what you all have had sucess with and and what did not work so well. I am a big tyme snowboarder so my space is somewhat limited. Thanx everyone.

it sounds like he wants to just go with persinal set up.. he said that he is an avide snowboarder so he needs the trunk space... so i would say if you wanted bass maybe go with some 8"s or 10"s you could mount them to the inside of the trunk wall in custom boxes, rather than a huge box... or even under the front seats if the person doing it knew how to... just a suggestion.. now if you want simple performance parts, do headers/intake/echasut...

well anyways welcom to AR.C bro.. hope you like the place.. liek we tell everyone else that joins.. youll either like us or hate us... hopefully youll like us.. we are not a bucnch of tightass ppl as you can probly already tell.. we take shit seriously but we dont take it overboard, cause unlike the rest we know how to have fun.... :D

jdm, I like your attention to the details thats makes all the differance. Yes I do want something that will hit really hard and still leave me with plenty of trunk space. I was thinking about a single 12" or 15" mtx 9500 sledge hammer 4ohm. Or maybe a solo L7. I would like to know what you all think about satilite radio, XM or sirius?

never had satellite radio. i think those subs too big

well if you chose to go with the 12"or bigger, than you can pretty much kiss the board space goodbye... unless you wanted to sacrafice the spare an mount it in that area instead...
i never had the satilite radio myself, but i have been in alot of cars with it.. it seems like it would be tight to have.. they got a shit load of stations to chose from, an most of them are commersial free.. if i had to chose from the two of them though...(xm, sirius).. it would be kinda tough.. they realy are about the same.. the only difference is the price on it..

yall saying 1 15 would take up more room then say 2 tens or twelves?

jdmaccordbo!916
12-21-2003, 12:25 PM
2 tens would not take up half the space that one 15 would.. that is just big as hell.. an for the two twelves, it would be the same you would have no trunk space unless you took out the spare, an mounted them down in that area..

12-21-2003, 05:05 PM

yeah besides the 12's, i can never fit anything in those side spaces anyways, which really doesnt matter cause i only use my trunk in the summer for my .......... fuck my bodyboards, looks like only 1 friend is riding with me to the beach.

XM radio is cool if u drive alot....it has some damn good music on it but not really worth it unless u drive a whole hell of alot...and id go w/ 1 solo baric 10.....then u still have room for ur board and shit

My friend run a car audio shop, and he told me these things:

- 2 x 8" subs = 1 x 10" sub
- 2 x 10" subs = 1 x 12" sub
- 2 x 12" subs = 1 x 15" sub

Just keep in your mind, I'm just talking bout the loudness not the sound quality or whatever. And it's not perfectly equaled, but it can used as consideration before buy the subs.

i just saw the add for the xm that shits like 100bucs for the tunner another 70 for car and reg tunner and another 100bucs for the home radio shit. thats nuts they need to sell them in packages, the sirus was only 150 for the complete thing

ya but what sucks about the siriuse system is that you gotta buy a deck that is compatable to work with it...xm you dont...
an as for the hole two 8's equals one 10" or whatever, i dont believe that at all.. i have freinds that install shit all the time for ppl, an they can make two 10's hit dam near just as hard as two 15's.. how do i know this, because they have won competitions with shit like that.. but thats just my $.2 cents.. but they are doing some crasy shit to make it like that.. one of the guys had four 10's an went to a show an knocked out his rear window casue it was flexing so much.. i dont know what he was readin on the db's but the judges were in shock aobut that one...

when looking at subs, for power you really need to look at the rms wattage rating. i put some cheesy 10" in my old bronco before i sold it, and they were 300 watts peak, 100 watts rms, for each. my infinity 6x9" 3 ways in my accord are rated exactly the same, but much smaller. you really get what you pay for, with amplifiers too. i would much rather spend my money on one nice 10" and a amp for that power than blow all my money on a 15", and get an amp that barely hits it.
so yea, i guess what i'm saying is find out what you want, then search around, keeping in mind the rms power rating of both the sub and the amp, and of course the price. you'll more than likely be able to find what you want.

matts you know any good amps? to power a pair of 500 rms subs?

this is great advice, all of it. I just picked up the amp and I got a pretty good deal. Its rated at 1085x1 4ohm or 525x2 2ohm. rockford

well im glad that we could be of some help, an m glad that we did not postwhore this thread all to shit... :p

also i used to have the phenox gold amp 450x2 pushin 2 fosgat 12's an it was pushin those just fine, out of curiousity i hooked it up to a set of 18's an it was still pushin those great as well... so like matt says the amp does mke the differance with the subs...

Infini Omega

actually, when putting in subs, you want to take a lot of things into concideration... everything from the sub's rms, frequency, peak, and size to the amp, amp wiring, power resistance, and even enclosure the subs will be mounted in. without the proper amount of cubic ft, your subs will not be as efficient
if u r lookin for a real good show/competition series amp, look into some MARK ANTONY amps
