At idle or in nutural, the engine revs up to 2000 but then it goes back down to 1000 and back up numerious times. Eventually if i leave it in nutural or at idle long enough, it stops and settles down at around 1500 rpms.

I told this to one of my mechanic buddies and he said that its my O2 sensor in the exhaust somewhere. I guess its bad or something, and i think it only does it in cold weather.

While getting my cars body done at the shop, the mechanics offered to fix the idle problem but they couldn't find the problem until i told them what my friend told me about the O2 sensor and they told me that makes sense so i need to get a new one.

The mechanics at the shop said that a stock honda sensor that i need is a little over $200 and an aftermarket one is around $400! I have not looked for one online because im not sure where to find one.

Do you think those mechanics at the body shop were tryin to rip me off or was that the truth?

Should i just go to a Car Quest store to see if they can get one for me or should i order one online somewhere, and if so, where?

Could i install it myself with simple tools or do i have to take my exhaust off?

i haven't looked yet, but is it in the chilton manuals?

well just wondering for myself, i called the dealership an asked how much it would run... they told me that there are two sencores
the primaery o2 sencore is 222.93
the secondary o2 sencore - nobody has a price...

now i called KRAGEN an they told me that for..
the primaery o2 sencore is $244.00
the secondaery o2 sencore is $175.00

so i would think that for an aftermarket one it is going to be alot more.. so i think they are telling you the truth... so go for it if that is the problem then fix it while you can...

remember when you are trying to get a part from honda they want to sell you the hole thing, not just a peice.... lol.... thats how they make there sales... $75. is not bad, speacialy if you are on a budget...they said that it is a one peice deal, so im hoping that they just dont know what they are talkin aobut.. but i did call two different dealers, an got hte same price.. so idunno.. a junk yard is always handy though like you said..

You get what you pay for folks. It's absolute crap that you have to pay that much money for something that won't make your car go faster or handle better - you can't even see the damn thing either. But it's better to throw good money at it now and fix it right up, or to fart-ass around and end up paying roughly the same amount eventually, but with a lot more pain and anguish....

Allright thanks for the help.

Should i replace both sensors or just the main one?

My bud with a 94 civic had this problem and it was the little sensor that went into his headers that was causing the "bogging"....that sensor had a total cost of like 15 dollars but i guess us accord owners must pay more because our cars are bettah

hey there you go, it says honda genuin parts... an it is the accord store, so i would go with the honda part not the aftermarket one.. ya its cheaper, but it might not be the same.. remember you get what you pay for.. spend a couple extra bucks bro, your car will thank you latter...

My car had similar problems. It would idle iratically between 800-1500 rpms.
Turns out i was low on coolant. My radiator had a small hole and i had to replace it. That was the last place i would have ever looked for screwy idle problems. Honda's are sensitive like that i guess.
