most engin bay pics i see have the heat shield over the headers taken off... why is that/ does it help cool the headers?... is it just a safty device or does it do any good?

if ya take a look at your stocker header it looks like rust and shit, i think that because the heat shield kept all the hot air coming off the header right against the header and engine instead off being releazed directly into the engine bay, plus, i think havnt tried the heat shield wont fit right because there are no holes to screw the shield into.

it is off because it looks so much better that way... that an with the stock one, i heared that they are not done with all of the stuff like you find today on the aftermarket headers.. i dunno, just trying to sound smart or something..

Also i don't think the stock heat shield would fit over an aftermarket header.

so should i take it off to let some of the heat away from my engen and headers?

i dont know if that would be a good idea with the stock headers though.. i think that they realy do put off alot more heat then the aftermarket ones do.. i would look into it more before you did this though....

nope, hot exhaust is good. the less dense air travels faster, and reduces backpressure. it would also fill your engine bay with the hot air that is otherwise kept closer to the headers. i'm sure that the effects of removing the heat sheild would be minimal, but whatever.

but if it's too hot, it gonna destroy ur exhaust. Try put some octane booster into your gasoline for a year everytime u fill ur tank. It happened to my bike before (lot of holessss) :D

ya so i just had my resinater cut off two days ago, due to over heating..(most likely from the heat sheild).. the heat wore out the metal peice an ate a hole clean thrue it.. made the worst noise to.. but not now, i got a straight pipe in there now.. so it runs all quiet again...

an i found some octane boost that bumps the gas up about 3 points per bottle, they recamend two bottles for best resolts... im pumping 91 octane an using this stuff, so then it should be like 95/96 if what they say is true.. an i do notice a difference...

Hey guys - my user name used to be grub79, but for some reason I couldn' get back on, so it was easier to just grab another user name.

The hotter the exhaust is, the quicker it will travel, the more it will "scavenge", and the better it will be in terms of performance. However, when I wanted to install a polished heat shield on them, he said that it would void the warranty on it as it gets too hot. Not sure if this is true, but I left the shield off. It doesn't melt anything in there or nothing, but the plastics around it are definitely warmer..

By the way, with octane booster, I know a guy up here with an 01 Rex, and he used to run octane booster with his fuel. He eventually melted his no. 3 piston. He wasn't running extra boost or anythign, but he did drive it hard. And he already had 95RON in it. Careful with the type of octane booster you put in your tanks - ask your Honda dealers inf octane boosters will void a new car warranty or not. Cos the Subaru dealer up here says it does.

Nothing much jdmaccordbo!916. It's been a while. How's your ride going? I've been looking through this again, and it sounds like your car starting to give you some grief mate. Hopefully, I or someone in here can give you a hand with it - nothing like repairs to piss you off huh? Just means money that coul've gone to mods now go to maintenance...
