i'm turboing my h22a right now and i want a transmission with taller gears that would fit the turbo better. I know my accord transmission is an option but is anyone familiar with some of the new 6spd transmissions like the rsx type-s? I simply need to know the engine codes that i would be able yank a tranny from to bolt to my h22a? Thanks for any help guys...

Naw, the H22a Transmission is geared way more towards a naturally aspirated motor rather than a turbocharged motor. I seriously want to know about the RSX engine platform though.

i think only f/h series motors and trannys bolt up together.the new rsx platform is different.

Yeah that's what i thought as weel but i heard soething about the New K-Series blocks were made pretty much exactly off the H/F series style, so i'm curious if Honda engineers were lazy once again and kept the tranny configureation the same.?.?.?

Don't count on using any B-series knowledge on the new K20; it is a different beast in every way. First, it rotates clockwise, where the B18 rotates counterclockwise. Honda engines have traditionally rotated the opposite direction from virtually every other production engine, but beginning with the most recent V6 powerplants, all new Honda engines will roll with the crowd. The change is part of a grand plan to cash in on Honda's enviable base of engineering knowledge by supplying engines to other manufacturers or, at least, to have that option available. As a result of rotating the other way, the engines now sit on the passenger's side of the engine compartment.

i have a feeling that it wouldn't be worth dealing with this opposite turning nonsence. nice to see you back garrett, how's the turbo going?

It's going alright. The engine is striped right now and about ready for the machining / Darton MID sleeving setup. Full heading is on the way, plans have changed a little though. Still going with the Garrett Turbo, i'm thinking Ferrea Valvetrain at the moment after the porting etc...Still thinking JE pistons, but i kinda want to match it with connecting rods. Still knifing the crank or getting a forged one though. I gotta get a digital camera and post some pics sometime here soon. Man those H22a Head bolts though; they only say they're torqued to 72 ft/lbs. But i had to ghetto rig this 6ft pry bar and struggle with it for awhile. I'll keep you updated. How's you ride doing?

slow as all hell. thats all i can say. my 'rents are getting me some stuff for x-mas, cai, strut bars, and my wheels should be here in january sometime. i really wish i had the money for a motor swap, but nope. i'm kinda waiting on stuff like exhaust, and that because i am planning on the swap, and i don't want to have to do everything twice. i was thinking about turboing the f22, but its got a few more miles that i think it could handle for a boosted daily driver.

Yeah man. Cash flow is definetly the major stop up with the engine right now. I feel your pain. But if i were you i would try and turbo that f22 if you want a challenge. That setup would catch the eye of people who knew what they were talking about. My f22 right now is going downhill by the minute, more and more miles on it, and the closer i get to doing the swap the harder and harder i am on it when i drive. I eventually want to go all motor (naturally aspirated) with my f22 and see what setup i like better. I'm thinking that i'll like the 400 hp that will be stomped out of the h22a though. Nothing like a turbocharged car man, nothing. Keep me updated on what you do.

AccordTunr333. Just a suggestion, if you're looking for a tranny with taller gears than an H22 tranny I would suggest the F22 tranny. The gears on it are way taller. I'm using the F22 tranny w/ my H22 right now and in third gear alone I could take it past 110mph. The gears are so tall however, that the revs usually drop below VTEC. It needs to be revved quite high for the engine to be in it's sweet spot after shifts. I don't really know how much of abuse it can take though.

not bad i think i took my f22 up to 100-105 in 3rd and then it started to shake. but then again it was on accident, damn friend turned the radio up and bumped it back into 3rd and i couldnt hear it till i felt it shaking. whooops

That same day I took my ride up to 131mph. Fastest I've ever gone. It was a rush. Very dangerous, but a rush. Back to the point in hand though. You can't do that with an H22 tranny. Third gear will only take you up to about 90-95mph. I was quite surprised at the different characteristics each tranny gave the car. I still prefer the H22 tranny over the F22 however. Closer gears give for improved acceleration........so I've read.

Well either way i go (h22 or f22a tranny) the internals will most likely have some custom parts made to eliminate things like not revving high enough to capture my optimal powerband with the turbo, or running through the gears before the turbo even spools up to get me some power. Damn, transmissions are a bitch to take apart, even with helms etc. There are sooooo many damn parts / spacers / washers / other shit to lose...aww gees i might have to take this to a shop to have it done...

a nice vtec controller will fix that.

what do you expect your rev limit to be? mines is going to be expected in the 10-11 range

dude, i would definately go with the f22 tranny. it can take a whole lot of abuse. I am running a mildly modified f22 with a decent amount of power. i hammer on it all the time and have only had 1 problem caused by an axle. The accord tranny's are exactly the same as the h22s they just have different ratios. you also might wanna check for a jdm tranny out of a dual cam f series.. i know these are hard to find but that would prolly be your best option for rations and toughness.

Hey Garrett! Been a while!
Your car is commin together rather nicely from what I'm reading. Just curious...did you ever do any interior mods to give you that extra leg room you wanted? I just remember you complaining about that and as far as I'm concerned, anything you're not happy with needs to be modded. As for your tranny issue, I'd suggest using the F22 or bring the H22 one to a trans. shop and have it modified. That way, its covered under that shops waranty if anything goes wrong and it's very easy for something to go wrong when it comes to trannys. It only takes one washer missing or something out of line to destroy it. In order to use the K20 trans you would have to change the rotation of your motor....it'd be cheaper to buy the K20 motor with trans and mod that.

Hey how have you been ACCLUDE?!?!
Haven't seen you round these parts for awhile! Yeah may car is at the point where there are just a lot of things that are going on and the biggest problem is cashflow, imagine that haha. And about that legroom issue, i haven't made any mods to it yet, cause i wanna wait for the recaros to be put in and the TAKATA 4pt harnesses so i only have to drill through the frame in one spot. I'm trying to rig it up so that i can get full saftey from the harnesses up front and still stuff people in the rear as passangers :D . Gotta buy me a digi cam though and post some pics up for everyone about these projects i got going, that's my next step. I think i'll just use the F22 tranny with the taller gears, and maybe just have it refurbished to make sure the parts are all in good working condition. Thanks for the help, good to see you back!
